Peace Studies Awards

For the first time the Central New York Peace Studies Consortium has developed an extensive Annual Awards component of the organization. All awards will be presented to the Award Winners at the Annual Peace Studies Conference.  Please take part in this new Consortium project and nominated whomever you think is deserving.

2009’s Annual Peace Studies Conference will be held at Le Moyne College Saturday November 14, 2009.

  • Peace Studies Book of the Year – This is an international award for outstanding book in the field of peace studies. The book does not have to be published or written by someone from Central New York. The book cannot be older than two years. We stress that peace studies includes any topic, issue, or concern (from environmentalism to prisoners’ rights) that promotes more peace in the world and is based no only on theory but in practice as well. The book can come from any discipline or topic including, but not limited to, international studies, ethnic studies, gender studies, religion, sociology, environmentalism, critical animal studies, social work, biology, history, economics, public administration, criminology, philosophy, anthropology, chemistry, medicine, agriculture, political science, disability studies, botany, and information studies. To nominate a book for this award, simply send the book to the Consortium.

  • Media of the Year - This is an international award for outstanding media such as documentaries, films, visual art, operas, plays, and music in the field of peace studies. This award does not include publications. The media does not have to be produced or performed by someone from Central New York. The media cannot be older than two years. We stress that peace studies includes any topic, issue, or concern (from environmentalism to prisoners’ rights) that promotes more peace in the world and is based no only on theory, but in practice as well.   • Peace Studies Undergraduate Paper/Project/thesis of the Year – This is an international award given to a undergraduate student who has written an outstanding paper/thesis that promotes peace and justice or who has established and organized a project that fosters peace and justice. We are strongly interested in projects that bridge the gap between academia and the surrounding community. To nominate an undergraduate student for this award, the nominator must write a one page letter and include the paper or write a one page detailed description of the project and send it to: info@peaceconsortium.org
  • Peace Studies Graduate Paper/Project/Dissertation of the Year – This is an international award given to any graduate student working on a masters or doctorate degree who has written an outstanding paper/thesis that promotes peace and justice or who has established and organized a project that fosters peace and justice. We are strongly interested in projects that bridge the gap between academia and the surrounding community. To nominate a graduate student for this award, the nominator must write a one page letter and include the paper or write a one page detailed description of the project and send it to: info@peaceconsortium.org
  • Peace Studies Faculty Paper/Project of the Year –  This is an international award given to a faculty conducting research or working at a college, university or institute who has written an outstanding paper or who has established and organized a project that promotes peace and justice. We are strongly interested in projects that bridge the gap between academia and the surrounding community. To nominate a faculty for this award, the nominator must write a one page letter and include the paper or write a one page detailed description of the project and send it to: info@peaceconsortium.org
