More About the Student Activist Training Conference

  • Interested in peace, justice, and progressive social change?  Want to network and meet like-minded people who are dedicated to social justice?  Want to learn from experts in the field of peace and justice studies?  Then please join us for this Activist Training Conference!
  • The purpose of this one day conference is to help college activists create positive, professional, and effective social change.  Our approach to peace activism encompasses many different philosophies, practices, and struggles.  We believe that war, poverty, racism, sexism, prisons, jobs, food, animal rights, political corruption, and mass media are all relevant to peace activists.
  • We will focus on organizing events for social justice: demonstrations, marches, protests, speaking engagements, film screenings, workshops, organizational meetings, etc.  Training topics include: the psychology of social change; communication skills; legal rights; and collaboration and group building.  The day will be a mix of talk, discussion, and hands-on, interactive workshops.  Morning refreshments and afternoon (vegan) lunch provided free of charge.  Please come out for this day of peace and justice!

Directions/Transportation Haverford College campus:

  • If driving, there is plenty of on-site parking (park on Carter Rd.; see map below).
  • If taking public transportation, take the Market-Frankford Line to69th St. and transfer to the Norristown High Speed Line (NHSL). You will have to pay twice each way—once for the M-F Line, and then again for the NHSL.  For the NHSL, you pay when you exit the train, not when you get on.
  • Give yourself plenty of time to get to Haverford since the trains may not run as regularly on Saturdays (estimate from Center City: 1 hour).
  • Once you are on the NHSL, get off at the Haverford Station stop(pull/hit the “request stop” since the train may not automatically stop; it’s the same concept as riding the bus).
  • From the train stop it is a short 5-minute walk to Stokes Hall.
  • Upon exiting the station, cross the parking lot to Haverford Road.  Turn right and walk along Haverford Road to College Avenue (first traffic light).  Turn left onto College Avenue and walk about one long block to the entrance to Haverford College (Walton Rd entrance on right).  You’ll see a big gate with a sign for the college.  Turning right onto Walton Rd, make your first left onto Carter Rd.  The large cream-colored building on your right once you turn onto Carter is Stokes Hall. You should see an entrance to the building off of Carter to your right.  Upon entering the building look for Suite #107.  The CPGC Lounge is right across the hallway.
